Knowledge is Power
Our theme for this year is “Be Your Own Hero”, it is a continuation of our Superhero theme from last year, which was a big hit with students. We want students to view PGE as their “Superhero Training Academy” where they will learn from our “everyday” Superheroes: PGE Staff. With our Superhero approach, we hope to instill a mindset that our students can do anything when they understand “Knowledge is Power!” Regular, on-going celebrations will focus on recognizing students and staff who show their superpowers by remaining focused on their mission, showing determination to overcome any challenges they may face, and using their knowledge to solve problems as they prepare to change the world!
MAP TESTING… M.A.P. Testing will begin this week. Each student, 1st grade through 5th grade will take an assessment in Reading and Math. Each “Superhero-In-Training” has specific needs and MAP is one of many tools we use to determine those needs. After students have tested, they work with their teachers to set individual goals for this school year. We’re sure to see some incredible learning power in action during the 2014-2015 Superhero Training Academy!
We continue to work with BCPS District Directors as we monitor our enrollment and determine needed classroom changes so that classroom sizes are within compliance with state regulations. Although the deadline to meet compliance isn’t until September 15, we hope to have changes in place sooner. With the significant increase in enrollment school-wide, all grade levels will experience some change, but we are confident this change will not have any adverse effects on student learning. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to ensure the best learning environment for all our Superheroes-in-Training!
The Ident A Kid Program provides your child with an ID card which provides parents and law enforcement with crucial information should your child become lost or missing. The driver’s license-like card contains your child’s photograph, fingerprint and description. Parents keep this card with them at all times, and in an emergency, can immediately provide law enforcement with relevant information. Regristration forms will be going home with students in Tuesday Folders this week.
We want to highlight your superhero at our next Splash celebration. Please send a picture of your son/daughter with a trophy, ribbon, certificate (etc.) or in uniform to Alison.firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday, September 1st.
