Uniform Dress Code
2007-2008

TOPS

Polo Shirts Sweatshirts

*Long or short sleeved polos with 2-4 buttons (traditional style only;

NOT form-fitting

*Only one polo at a time

*Any solid color polos

*No modifications including but not limited to writing, slitting, cutting, tearing, fringing, etc.

*Polos must have collar and buttons buttoned.

*Polos must extend below the waist when arm is raised; not too large

*May have approved BMS or BMS team logo only

*Solid undershirts in any color;no undergarments or skin showing

*Plain, long sleeved crewneck pullover

*Any solid color sweatshirt

*May have approved BMS or BMS team logo only

*Banded at waist

*May be worn over approved polo, dress shirt, undershirt, or turtleneck in any solid color; may not wear on arms only

* Any solid color or BMS hoodies allowed with hoods off head

*No zippers

*No modifications including but not limited to writing, slitting, cutting, tearing, fringing, etc.

Cloth Dress Shirts T-Shirts (long or short sleeved)

*Any solid color with solid undershirt or turtleneck in any color, visible only at collar (NO DENIM)

*Long or short sleeved

*Must be tucked in

 

*T-shirts with approved BMS logos, such as for BMS athletics, BMS clubs, or BMS events

Coats/Jackets
Coats, jackets, and sweaters must be kept in locker

BOTTOMS

Pants Skirts/Jumpers

*Uniform style in solid navy blue, khaki tan, or khaki green only (NO BLACK)

*Cotton blend or twill fabrics only (no denim, corduroy, stretch pants, spandex, leather, or nylon/polyester)

*No sagging; no hip-huggers; not form-fitting

*Belt must be worn on all pants that are too large and tend to sag

*No modifications including but not limited to writing, slitting, cutting, tearing, fringing, etc.

*No jean-style or cargo pockets, wide legs, rivets

*No skorts, shorts, or capri pants

*Uniform style in solid navy blue, khaki tan, or khaki green only (NO BLACK)

*Cotton blend or twill fabrics only (no denim, corduroy, spandex, leather, or nylon/polyester)

*Length must pass the Flamingo test below

Flamingo Test
Stand with both feet flat on the floor. Lift one foot and bend the knee at 90° angle. The other leg remains straight. If the back of the skirt touches the calf of the bent leg, the skirt is long enough. If the skirt does not touch the calf, the skirt is in violation of the dress code.

OTHER

Jewelry/Accessories Shoes

*No medallions or wallet chains

*No visible body piercing except ears including but not limited to tongue piercing

*Ties with no offensive designs are optional for boys and girls

*No hats of any kind

*No garments tied around body

*No visible body graffiti or distracting cosmetics

*Hairstyles or hair colors should not be distracting or disruptive including rollers

*No disruptive or obscene language, slogans, or pictures

*No purses or backpacks in class; must be kept in locker

*No sweatbands or multiple bracelets may be worn on the arms.

*Tennis shoes, loafers, sandals or dress shoes with heel straps ONLY

*No flip-flops, platform heels, houseshoes, roller shoes

*No heels over 2 1/2 inches; no spike heels

*Shoe laces must be tied correctly

Consequences
1st offense:  Written warning

2nd- 4th offenses:  Before or after school detention

5th + offenses::  ISAP, Friday School, or suspension as assigned by principal and an administrative referral to the Youth Services Center for parent contact

Offenses will be reset to 0 beginning second semester.

Dress code will be followed at school dances occurring immediately after school.
The principal/designee will be the last authority on all dress code matters.
There will be special notification and instructions from the principal on dress-down days.

The Youth Services Center will not be used to solve daily dress code issues.
