Parents are still needed to serve on the SBDM Council Committees, below is a list of the committees and their next meeting date and time. Your input is invaluable to the progress of the council and the school. Curriculum
- Defined as all experiences provided by the school to help students develop academically, socially, emotionally and physically. Curriculum includes both what is taught and how it is organized for delivery.
- Aligning BMS Curriculum with Kentucky Core Content Guidelines; evaluating the implementation and effectiveness to make sure the planned and implemented curriculum are consistent with the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan and that the students are being taught what the state will assess; designing and evaluating authentic assessment techniques used by teachers; setting priorities for improving curriculum; and reporting to the Council results of the disaggregated CATS data, student achievement data, results of curriculum mapping and input from faculty. This committee shall interface with the CSIP, PD, Textbook and Instructional Materials, and Instructional Practices and Technology committees.
Instructional Practices and Technology 3/6/07 at 4:15pm
- Instructional practices are techniques, specific and general, used by teachers to teach awareness, knowledge and skills, monitor students while they learn, and assess and report student progress. Instruction is how students are taught.
- Researching best instructional practices; assessing teacher needs; identifying priorities; reporting these findings to the Council. This committee shall interface with the CSIP Committee, PD Committee, Textbook and Instructional Materials Committee, and the Curriculum Committee.
Scheduling/Student Placement Committee 3/16/07 at 3:15pm
- Creating a daily schedule and the number of teaching teams to accommodate the number of students, recommendations are based on projected enrollment and staffing formula provided by the Board of Education, submit plans to the Council for approval, and work with the Council in monitoring and amending as necessary.
- Student placement is defined as appropriate placement of individual students by the Principal and Counselor in consultation with previous teachers. Newly enrolled student assignments will be based on best interest of the student and is the responsibility of the Counselor.
Student Services 3/8/07 at 3:15pm
- Provided by the school to address the needs of students that are not being addressed by curricular or extra-curricular activities.
- Assessing the needs of students; developing a plan to provide services; presenting a plan to the Council for approval, monitoring the plan and evaluating the effectiveness of the program(s). (Including but not limited to Extended School Service, Counseling Services, Youth Service Center programs and activities.)
Discipline/Classroom Management Committee 3/13/07 at 3:15pm
- Discipline shall be defined as a system for managing student behavior, for promoting an environment that enhances learning for all students, and for establishing responsibilities for students, parents, and school personnel regarding student behavior. Students whose behavior is disruptive to the learning environment shall be assigned consequences.
- Monitoring and evaluating current discipline and student behavior management strategies; researching alternative discipline techniques, sharing information with faculty and developing a plan for implementing classroom management practices; making reports to the Council regarding discipline data and recommendations for improving discipline and classroom management strategies.
Professional Development (PD) 3/26/07 at 3:15pm
- Determine PD based on needs for school and individuals
Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) 3/8/07 at 4:30pm
- Assessing needs; gathering input from faculty and parents; setting priorities; developing: goals and outcomes, plans of action, timeline, and budget; and to monitor implementation of the plan. Council is responsible for adopting and overseeing implementation of the plan.
