    3. Good News Reports-The Beta Club students fared well at convention, the club is eligible to attend the National Junior Beta Club convention in Nashville this summer, and several individual students placed in competition making them eligible to compete at the national level. We also learned that a student who we thought placed third in social studies written assessment had actually placed second. On February 22 the 8th graders toured Bullitt Central High School, and high school counselors and administrators have been here talking with students about scheduling for next year. 5th graders from Lebanon Junction and Cedar Grove Elementary Schools visited with us on March 8th for the Dollars and Sense program. Our Scholastic Review was completed February 26th and 27th and the oral report out given by the team lead notes improvement in all 14 areas of concern from last year’s review. They cited two areas of focus for our next steps: high expectations for all and analysis of student work. Track season is underway with the first meet the week after spring break. The Academic Team Quick Recall Team has been invited for the second year to the Kentucky Derby Festival Academic Challenge. Bullitt Central students built and have delivered a storage shed for the outdoor classroom and the new kiln has arrived and has successfully fired it’s first round of clay. Three students will be recognized for designing the banner for Bullitt County for the Kentucky School Board Association conference. Mr. Murphy was featured in the last issue of Kentucky Teacher in an article about podcasting. Hoops for Heart, held February 12-16th was a success.
    4. Public Comment-There was no public comment at this meeting.
  3. Student Achievement
    1. Student Achievement Reports-The next round of learning checks will be on Tuesday, March 20 with a report of progress at the next meeting.

IV. Planning

    1. Commonwealth School Improvement Funds-Julie Buckner provided the Council a copy of the information packet for Commonwealth School Improvement Funds (CSIF). These are state provided funds and Bernheim is eligible for $20,257.61. These funds are for use to improve student achievement through innovative programming. The Council discussed several ideas for use of this money. Knowing two necessary next steps from our review are high expectations and analysis of student work, we discussed ideas that will help us accomplish these steps. The Council is in agreement to accept these funds and will meet again at a date to be established at the conclusion of this meeting to revise our Comprehensive School Improvement Plan and complete the budget for these funds.
    2. 07-08 Tentative Budget-Julie Buckner provided the Council with tentative Section 6, textbook, phone, and professional development allocations for the 07-08 school year. Council was also provided a copy of the MUNIS report for SBDM instructional, library, guidance, and principal’s office accounts. This MUNIS report shows activity through the month of February.
    3. ESS Credit Recovery- After thoughtful discussion, the Council is in agreement to offer an "Administrative Recovery Program" for students at risk of failure for the year as summer school is no longer an option. Administrators will review at the conclusion of the third grading period a list of students in danger of failure and work with those students after school, in addition to ESS, to recover points toward their final grade.
    4. Effective Schools Surveys-The Effective Schools Surveys have gone out to parents this week, and all students will have an opportunity to complete a survey this week. Faculty and staff are also completing surveys. Those should all be returned and ready to ship back to the Association for Effective Schools early next week for processing.
    5. Title I School Improvement Funds/ Needs Assessments-Bernheim currently has $11,750.91 in Title I School Improvement funds to spend, with another approximately $25,000 coming our way. Julie Buckner shared with the Council a list of professional development needs generated by the faculty as an "exit slip" at our last faculty meeting. Council also discussed recommendation of the Instructional Practices and Technology committee to equip every classroom with LCD projectors. Council in agreement to use the $11,750.91 to purchase as many projectors as possible and then use new monies to finish that purchase. From there Council agrees that classrooms need to be equipped with Smart Boards or Airliners (portable Smart Boards).
    6. SBDM Mini-Grant Applications-The Council reviewed 17 applications for mini-grants that were submitted. Four were declined, the remainder approved and purchase orders will begin being processed this week.
  1. Committee Reports-Ms. Buckner provided the Council a packet containing minutes from the most recent meetings of the Scheduling, Student Services, CSIP, Instructional Practices/Technology, and Discipline Committees. There was no action taken.
  2. Review-The agenda items listed here were tabled for a later meeting in the interest of time.
  3.

  4. New Business-There was no new business brought before the Council.
  5. Adjourn-A motion was made at 7:23p.m. by Beverly Shaner and seconded by Kimberly Newton that the meeting adjourn. There was consensus among the Council.
