  1. Convene: The Council convened at 3:55p.m. Members present were: Beverly Shaner, Kimberly Newton, Julia Barker, Jennifer Harrison, and Julie Buckner.
  2. Opening Business
    1. Agenda Approval: A motion was made by Beverly Shaner and seconded by Kimberly Newton to approve the agenda. As this is a special meeting, the agenda was set at the adjournment of the April 11 regular meeting to complete unfinished business. There was consensus among the Council.
  3. Planning
    1. CSIP Review: The Council completed a comprehensive review of the draft of the 2006-2008 Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. The plan focuses on the areas of literacy, math/science, and school climate. These are the same areas currently being addressed. With minor corrections and a few additions to the strategies presented, the Council approved the draft of the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.
  4. Review
    1. Regular and Special Meetings: The Council reviewed the policy and regular and special meetings. No action taken.
    2. Open and Closed Sessions: The Council reviewed the policy on open and closed sessions. No action taken.
    3. Retention Policy: The Council reviewed the retention policy in place for the 2005-2006 school year. The Council has charged the Committee with gathering data and making a recommendation to the Council regarding the retention policy for the 2006-2007 school year. No other action taken pending Committee recommendations.
  5. New Business
    1. Portfolio Analysis Policy: With changes forthcoming in the writing portfolio and on-demand writing assessments and due to concerns regarding reliability and validity in a mandated school-wide analysis, the Council has agreed it is not necessary to discuss at this time a policy requiring all certified staff to analyze portfolios.
  6. Adjourn: A motion was made by Jennifer Harrison and seconded by Julia Barker to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 6:50p.m.
