Bullitt Lick Middle School Title 1 Learning Compact

Among the strategies for student learning and engagement, collaborative cooperation has been the most proven path to success. Therefore, we in the Bullitt Lick Middle School family look to create this compact amoung all stakeholders in the learning process to unite us in the common principle.

As the Parents/Guardian(s), I will strive to:

  1. Make sure my child arrives at school ontime each and every day prepared with all necessary tools and supplies.
  2. Provide our child with all manner of support at home, including homework/study time.
  3. Promote academic excellence, especially in reading.
  4. Provide the school with current contact information.
  5. Make sure our child cooperates with all school rules.

As a Student, I will strive to:

  1. Arrive at school on time and come prepared to class.
  2. Know, understand, and cooperate with school rules.
  3. Show respect to my classmates and school staff.
  4. Work cooperatively and constructively during class and give my best effort.

As a Teacher, I will strive to:

  1. Give parents the necessary assistance to help their child with any work assigned in my classroom.
  2. Make BOTH students and parents aware of their progress in my class.
  3. Provide consistent feedback, including positive comments.
  4. Provide an inviting, positive learning environment.
  5. Hold student to high expectations with the belief that all students CAN learn.

EXPLORE

In the fall, the 8th grade students take a test called the EXPLORE test which is an early indicator of college readiness. We are proud to say that BLMS gained over a point in every content area except science, which was .7. This does not sound like much, but when you consider that .2 is a respectable gain, we knocked the socks off of it! Our scores are still below the state and national averages, but clearly as the district is “moving forward”, so are we! At the rate we are improving, we are on track to catch up quickly. Great job, 8th grade!

Stay in Touch with Technology

Several of our teachers are getting very savvy with technology and use websites, blogs, email, and Twitter to keep parents informed. If you go to their email account:

<first name>.<last name>@bullitt.kyschools.us

you will find where you can locate additional information about their classes at the bottom of the message near their signature. BLMS also sends Twitter updates, so sign up for Twitter. You can find us under “bullittlick”.

Do You Have a Suggestion?

A suggestion box has been placed in the lobby just across from the office and we welcome any suggestions you may have to make Bullitt Lick better! Central Office personnel will collect the suggestions and make a report to us. We value your opinion in any format!

Car Rider Alert

If your child is a car rider, the drop off and pick up will run  smoothly and quickly if cars  pull all the way up to the end of the front porch and ALL the students in cars along the sidewalk exit their cars at the same time. Six cars could move along at a time. Also, parents, please have your child get their belongings and be ready to go as soon as your car pulls up. The same procedure will work for pick up in the afternoon. Students should go to their car as soon as the car comes to a stop in front of the sidewalk.

Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing!

We have to stay focused on learning every single day to be sure the students are prepared and confident when test time rolls around. Here are some things you can do to help:

*Check the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus each week to be sure grades are where they should be and, if they are not, set up a conference with your child’s teachers.

*Follow teacher websites and blogs to keep up with assignments and what they are learning in class.

*Talk to your child about what they are learning.

*If the class is reading a novel, get a copy and read it, too, and discuss the story with your child.

*Have your child work on Study Island or Carnegie Math Cognitive Tutor every night for at least 30 minutes.
