Dear Freedom Families:
This marks the second time this school year that Freedom has won the attendance trophy for the district. Thanks to Freedom parents for making sure that your child is at school every day and ready to learn. It is truly a team effort!
On another happy note, Freedom’s Academic Team placed first in district competition on Saturday! We are so proud of them and look forward to regional competition on March 20.
Just a reminder that Parent/Teacher Conferences are this Tuesday, March 2. Teachers will be available to discuss student progress from 4:00-7:00 that evening. If you don’t have an appointment and would like to meet with your child’s teacher, it’s not too late! Please call the school office at 955-9795 and leave a message for the teacher.
Mark your calendars!
- March 1: SBDM meeting, 4 p.m.
- March 2: FES science fair during school hours
Parent/Teacher Conferences, 4-7 p.m.
- March 9: Spring pictures – individual and group

There are many ways you can support your child’s learning and school. Here are just a few ideas.
- Spend a few minutes every evening looking over handouts your child brings home. Fill out forms to return the next day.
- Tell your child’s teachers if you can help them out at school.
- Make sure teachers know you appreciate their efforts. From time to time consider sending a thank you note or e-mail.
- Contact the teacher immediately if you see a problem. Working together will help your child succeed.
- Attend conferences, parent meetings, and school events regularly.
These ideas were culled from the “Resources for Educators” Web Site, chosen for how they apply to Freedom. Barely an event goes by that at least one student does not participate because a form is missing. I frequently hear about parents who come to help in the classroom and the huge difference they make for the students, and I have witnessed the joy of a teacher with just a sentence or two of appreciation from parents. As to the fourth suggestion, I see a great difference in how problems are resolved when a parent notifies us right away, and when they wait to see if a problem will resolve itself. We all know that if we hold on to worries they get bigger. Parents tell me they do not want to “bother” the teacher with small things but I promise no one at Freedom minds discussing any topic with families and would rather solve them when they are small. Finally, the students get a powerful message about how important their education is to you when you attend school functions.
