Family Literacy Night
Growing Readers and Writers
April 15, 6-7 pm

Please plan to join us for MWES Family Literacy Night on April 15th from 6-7. This year we are Growing Readers and Writers. We will focus on ways students and their families can foster the love and ability to read and write! There will be read alouds, crafts, and time to enjoy reading with a snack. For the 1st time we will offer a short parent session concerning ways to "grow your reader and writer". It will be a fun time for all. Look for a flyer in your child's Tuesday Folder after spring break. We hope to see you there!

Local artist and muralist, Karla Gruber, is working with MWES students on Early Release Days in March and April to paint a large mural. We will share their progress here.

Thank you for your patience as we implement this new schedule. If you have additional questions, please contact our school.

Our spring MAP testing begins next week! I am confident that the results will show what outstanding students we have here at MWES! Our staff and students have worked hard all year and are prepared! Please talk with your child about the responsibility he/she has to give their best effort on theses exams. We are excited to see the growth our students have made this year!

The Braves' Banner is the second in our annual publication of the writings of Mt. Washington Elementary students. All students were invited to submit writing pieces for inclusion in the anthology. There are 62 student authors represented in this bound book. The kids love seeing their work in print, and the books make great gifts for family members! Copies of last year's anthology, MWES Writing Colors Our World are also available. This book is even available through amazon.com, but you can save $2 and shipping by ordering it through the school at this time. Each book is $8 per copy. If you want to order one or more copies, please send your exact amount in cash or check made out to the school to Ms. Hutchins by Friday, April 25. Please indicate which book you want, and how many copies of each.

All expecting parents and new parents are invited attend the Community Baby Shower on Thursday, April 24 from 5:30- 8pm at Bullitt Lick Middle School. There will be 20 exhibitors from local area businesses, door prizes, gifts, drawings for fathers, and special activities. There will also be a panel of doctors available to answer your parenting and pregnancy questions. This event is sponsored by the Bullitt County Health Department and Family Resource/Youth Service Centers.

On April 21st from 4-7 pm, 5th grade students from MWES are invited to Eastside Middle School to try out and rent/purchase band instruments with Conrad Music. This will be set up in the band room. Any 5th grade student attending EMS next school year is invited. Students may sign up for band at this time. Students are not required to have been in 5th grade band to join 6th grade band at EMS.

Important 5th Grade Parent Info: For students attending Eastside Middle School next year there will be a parent night at EMS on May 6 at 6 pm.

Great turnout for our annual Family Literacy Night! Thank you for partnering with us to learn strategies for “Growing our Readers and Writers”…. We appreciate your support!
